ERMITTLUNG DES VERLAGERUNGSFAEHIGEN ANTEILS DES KFZ-VERKEHRS EINER STADT

THE RESEARCH WAS CONCERNED WITH THE EXTENT TO WHICH VEHICLE USERS CAN BE PERSUADED TO USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT INSTEAD OF THEIR VEHICLES. COUNTS MADE FOR THE STUTTGART REGIONAL TRAFFIC PLAN FORMED THE BASIS OF THE STUDY. THE PARTICULAR OBJECTIVE WAS TO DETERMINE THE SPECIFIC REACTIONS OF DIFFERENT BEHAVIOURAL GROUPS TO ILLUSTRATE THE RELATION BETWEEN CHOICE OF TRANSPORT MODE OF THE VARIOUS GROUPS AND DIFFERENCES IN THE SUPPLY OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE TRANSPORT. THE METHOD USED TO DETERMINE BEHAVIOURAL GROUPS WAS THE LEAST SQUARES METHOD. REACTION FUNCTIONS WERE ESTIMATED BY MEANS OF A LINEAR REGRESSION ANALYSIS VIA SELECTED ORIGIN DESTINATION RELATIONS. EVALUATION WAS LIMITED TO WORKS AND CULTURAL JOURNEYS. IT WAS SHOWN THAT GIVING UP THE USE OF A CAR IN FAVOUR OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT IS PREDOMINANTLY OCCASIONED BY FACTORS WHICH HAVE A RESTRICTIVE EFFECT ON CAR USE. IF POSSIBLE USE OF A CAR IS NOT EXCLUDED BECAUSE OF A MISSING VEHICLE OR DRIVING LICENCE, BASIC RESTRICTIONS ARISE FROM COMPETITION FOR THE CAR WITHIN A HOUSEHOLD AND A LACK OF PARKING PLACES AT THE DESTINATION. AS A RULE SUPPLY OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT CORRELATES NEGATIVELY WITH THE AVAILABILITY OF PARKING PLACES, AND CANNOT BE COMPLETELY ISOLATED.
