DETERMINATION OF DYNAMIC LOADS ON ROADS

ERMITTLUNG DES BELASTUNGSKOLLEKTIVS VON STRASSEN

SINCE ROAD CONSTRUCTION AND TESTING OF THE LOADING OF THE ROAD SURFACE AND LOAD REPETITION ARE BASED ON HYPOTHETICAL ASSUMPTIONS, THE OBJECT OF THE WORK WAS TO OBTAIN INFORMATION ON THE FORCES WHICH ARE SIGNIFICANT FOR STRESS ON THE ROAD, I.E. WHEEL LOAD AND THE FORCES IN THE TYRE-CONTACT AREA, WHICH ARE CHARACTERISED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THEIR EFFECT AS VERTICAL, LONGITUDINAL AND TRANSVERSE FORCES, AND TO DETERMINE LOADING FREQUENCY IN RELATION TO TYPES OF VEHICLE. THE MEASURING DEVICE CONCEIVED FACILITATED THE MEASUREMENT OF WHEEL LOADS WITH A COMMERCIAL WEIGHBRIDGE, WHEREAS SIMULTANEOUS DETERMINATION OF THE THREE ORTHOGONAL FORCES TOOK PLACE WITH A PIEZOELECTRIC MEASUREMENT RECORDER. DATA WERE OBTAINED ON TRAFFIC, SPEED OF VEHICLES, LOAD REPETITION, WHEEL LOADS, THE LEVEL AND FREQUENCY OF FORCES AND THE LOADING OR LOAD-RELIEF RATE, AND TYRE CONTACT LENGTHS. DATA OBTAINED FROM A SUITABLE MEASURING POINT IN AACHEN, FROM WHICH PROPOSALS WERE DERIVED BOTH FOR THEORETICAL DESIGN AND FOR LOAD SIMULATION IN THE LABORATORY, CAN HOWEVER ONLY BE GENERALISED UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, SINCE THE HORIZONTAL FORCES AT OTHER POINTS IN THE ROAD NETWORK VARY IN MAGNITUDE IN THE SAME WAY AS THE SPEED - RELATED PARAMETERS - LOADING DURATION, LOAD REPETITION AND THE LOADING AND LOAD-RELIEF RATE. RESULTS OBTAINED SO FAR INDICATE A NEED FOR FURTHER DYNAMIC LOADS AT STATIONARY MEASURING POINTS TO BE DETERMINED, TO EXTEND THE INFORMATION ON LOADING.
