BETTER SHIP PROTECTION WITH CHLORINATED RUBBER HIGH-BUILD COATINGS
The properties of chlorinated rubber resin that make it a good marine coating are chemical resistance, low water vapor permeability, durability, drying by solvent release and nonflamability. Advantages of high-build coatings are explained and methods of surface preparation are compared. The practical aspects of chlorinated rubber for bottom coatings are examined, including frequency of repainting, ability to withstand cathodic protection and costs. Applications to boottop, topsides and superstructures are mentioned.
