ZERMOS MAPPING - METHODS OF DRAWING UP MAPS OF ZONES EXPOSED TO RISKS CAUSED BY SOIL AND SUBSOIL MOVEMENTS

LA CARTOGRAPHIE ZERMOS - MODALITES D'ETABLISSEMENT DES CARTES DES ZONES EXPOSEES A DES RISQUES LIES AUX MOUVEMENTS DU SOL ET DU SOUS-SOL

ON 1975, THE NATIONAL GEOLOGICAL UNIT WAS GIVEN THE TASK OF ESTABLISHING A NUMBER OF ZERMOS MAPS OF A METHODOLOGICAL AND OPERATIONAL NATURE. THE AIM OF THESE MAPS, WHICH USE COLOUR ZONING (GREEN, ORANGE, RED), IS TO SHOW THE PROBABILITY OF LANDSLIDE OR INSTABILITY IN A GIVEN ZONE. THIS HIERARCHY OR GRADUATION IN SPACE OF THE NATURE OR DEGREE OF INSTABILITY IS BASED MAINLY ON THE ANALYSIS OF A CERTAIN NUMBER OF FACTORS (PERMANENT OR TEMPORARY), WHICH INFLUENCE THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE TERRAIN. BY THEIR CONCEPTION AND SCALE (1/2500) ZERMOS MAPS ARE FIRST AND FOREMOST INFORMATIVE DOCUMENTS BUT ALSO WARNING ONES. THEY FORM A TECHNICAL FILE TO BE USED BY ADMINISTRATIVE AUTHORITIES AND LOCAL AUTHORITIES IN THE SELECTION OF SAFETY AND TOWN PLANNING.
