MODEL FOR CALCULATING TRAFFIC WITHIN A CELL IN URBAN AND REGIONAL PLANNING AREAS AS PART OF THE CALCULATION OF TRAFFIC DISTRIBUTION

A NUMBER OF MODELS EXIST FOR SIMULATING TRAFFIC AND FORECASTING FUTURE TRAFFIC. IN MOST OF THE MODELS THE PLANNING SPACE IS DIVIDED INTO TRAFFIC CELLS AND THE TRAFFIC BETWEEN THESE CELLS CALCULATED. THE TRAFFIC WHICH HAS ITS ORIGIN AND DESTINATION WITHIN THE SAME CELL IS USUALLY EITHER REGARDED AS NEGLIGIBLE - AN ASSUMPTION WHICH IS OFTEN INCORRECT - OR AN ATTEMPT IS MADE TO ELIMINATE IT DURING CALCULATION OF TRAFFIC GENERATION. IN THIS WORK A CONCEPT IS BEING DEVELOPED WHICH DETERMINES THE TRAFFIC WITHIN A CELL STARTING FROM THE ELEMENTS OF THE GRAVITY MODEL IN THE TRAFFIC DISTRIBUTION ALGORITHM. EFFORTS ARE BEING MADE TO OBTAIN A MODEL WHICH DISTRIBUTES THE WHOLE TRAFFIC VOLUME IN THE PLANNING AREA ACCORDING TO UNIFORM CRITERIA.
