EXPERIMENTAL DETERMINATION OF DYNAMIC WHEEL LOAD FLUCTUATIONS IS PROBLEMATICAL FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF THE MEASUREMENTS, EVALUATION, AND POSSIBLE INFORMATION OBTAINED. IN A FIRST SERIES OF TESTS THE OBJECT IS TO EXAMINE WHETHER USEFUL RESULTS CAN BE OBTAINED FROM A SUITABLE PROGRAMME OF MEASUREMENTS. A 60 M LONG TEST ROAD IS BEING BUILT ACCORDING TO RSTO 75 SPECIFICATIONS UNDER PRECISELY DEFINED CONDITIONS, AND ON THIS TEST ROAD THE EFFECTS OF SINGLE OR TWIN TYRES ON SINGLE AXLES (PNEUMATIC SUSPENSION) ON ROAD STRESS IS TO BE EXAMINED. MEASUREMENTS ON THE VEHICLE CAN ALSO BE UNDERTAKEN SIMULTANEOUSLY BY OTHER INSTITUTES. THE RESULTS OF THE MEASUREMENTS OBTAINED IN THIS PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME CAN BE EVALUATED IN THE SHORT TERM AND RELATIVELY CHEAPLY FOR THE TEST VEHICLE AND ROAD, AND A DECISION MADE WHETHER TO EXTEND THE TEST PROGRAMME TO DETERMINE DYNAMIC WHEEL LOAD FLUCTUATIONS IN RELATION TO VARIOUS PARAMETERS.
