MEASUREMENT AND PREDICTION OF NOISE FROM CONSTRUCTION SITES

THIS REPORT GIVES PROVISIONAL RESULTS OF A STUDY OF NOISE FROM LARGE-SCALE CONSTRUCTION SITES. PART 1 CONSIDERS LEGISLATION IN THE UNITED KINGDOM AND OTHER COUNTRIES. PART 2 PRESENTS THEORETICAL CONSIDERATIONS ON THE FORECAST OF THE LEVELS OF SOUND EMITTED BY TRANSPORT VEHICLES. PART 3 DEALS WITH RESULTS OF MEASUREMENTS OF THE LEVEL OF SOUND EMITTED BY CONSTRUCTION MACHINES, THE DISTRIBUTION OF NOISE LEVEL FROM A STATIONARY PLANT, ANALYSIS OF THE SPECTRUM OF THE 3RD OCTAVE OF SOUND FROM CONSTRUCTION PROCESSES SUCH AS INSTALLATION OF CAST-IN-SITU PILES, EARTHWORKS. PART 4 CONSIDERS THE PROPAGATION OF NOISE EMITTED BY THE EQUIPMENT. PART 5 COMPARES LEVELS OF PREDICTED AND MEASURED NOISES. PART 6 DEALS WITH ADDITIONAL ATTENUATION OTHER THAN THE SIMPLE SPHERIC OR HEMISPHERIC PROPAGATION, WHICH IS NOT DUE TO SCREENS OR BARRIERS. THE LAST PART REPORTS ON NOISE REDUCTION BY MEANS OF SCREENS AND BARRIERS.
