CONTROL OF AN ISOLATED JUNCTION, COMPARATIVE STUDY OF SEVERAL ALGORITHMS

COMMANDE ADAPTATIVE D'UN CARREFOUR ISOLE, ETUDE COMPARATIVE DE QUELQUES ALGORITHMES

FOUR CONTROL ALGORITHMS AND ONE OPTIMISED FIXED CYCLE CONTROL HAVE BEEN COMPARED IN THE FIELD AND BY SIMULATION UNDER DIFFERENT TRAFFIC CONDITIONS - VEHICLE INTERVAL, VOLUME DENSITY, AERO-VILLE ALGORITHM AND MILLER ALGORITHM. INITIALLY CERTAIN ALGORITHMS HAVE BEEN MODIFIED IN ORDER TO OBTAIN SATISFACTORY OPERATION UNDER ALL TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. PARAMETERS WERE THEN ADJUSTED USING THE SIMULATION MODEL AND IN SITU MEASUREMENTS. TWO FIELD MEASUREMENT METHODS WERE DEVELOPED, AN AUTOMATIC METHOD BASED ON MEASUREMENT OF QUEUE LENGTH, USING DETECTION STRIPS, AND A MANUAL METHOD USING TRAVEL TIME. THE RESULTS OBTAINED AGREE SATISFACTORILY WITH SIMULATION. THEY SHOW THAT THE MILLER ALGORITHM IS THE MOST EFFICIENT IRRESPECTIVE OF FLOW.
