INFLUENCE OF PHARMACEUTICAL DRUGS ON DRIVING RISK

INFLUENCE DE LA CONSOMMATION DE MEDICAMENTS SUR LE RISQUE DE CONDUITE AUTOMOBILE

THIS REPORT GIVES THE RESULTS OF A SURVEY OF 1664 ACCIDENTS BETWEEN 1973 AND 1975. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT 17,7% OF PEOPLE INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS TAKE PHARMACEUTICAL DRUGS AND THAT OVER 8% OF DRIVERS (CAR OR TWO-WHEELED VEHICLE DRIVERS) CONSUME PSYCHOTROPIC DRUGS. IN 18% OF CASES IT WAS THOUGHT THAT THE DRUGS INFLUENCED THE DRIVER'S BEHAVIOUR AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. IT WAS OBSERVED THAT TWO-WHEELER RIDERS WHO TAKE DRUGS, FALL OR ARE IN COLLISION WITH INERT OBSTACLES MORE FREQUENTLY THAN THE OTHERS; THE SAME APPLIES FOR LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL.
