MAUTMODELL, PKW-REISEGESETZ IM OESTERREICHISCHEN FERNVERKEHR

IN ANALOGY TO THE FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTION OF JOURNEY LENGTHS ON RAILWAYS, THE LAWS RELATING TO CAR JOURNEY LENGTHS ON THE AUSTRIAN ROAD AND MOTORWAY NETWORK WERE STUDIED. SHORT DISTANCE TRAFFIC, PARTICULARLY DOWNTOWN TRAFFIC, WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE STUDY. THE STUDY WAS BASED ON COUNTS IN WHICH AUSTRIAN CAR OWNERS WERE CLASSIFIED ACCORDING TO PROFESSION, LOCATION ETC. PERSONAL INTERVIEWS WERE CONDUCTED AND JOURNEYS COMPLETED WERE EVALUATED. IN ALL THE SURVEY INCLUDED ABOUT 600 CAR OWNERS IN AUSTRIA. A DISTINCTION WAS MADE BETWEEN NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL JOURNEYS. A FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTION OF CAR JOURNEY LENGTHS WAS DETERMINED FROM EACH INDIVIDUAL COUNT. FROM A COMPARISON OF THESE INDIVIDUAL DISTRIBUTIONS - APPROXIMATELY 600 - THE DETERMINING FACTORS WERE DERIVED. THE RESULT SHOWS SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES FROM THE LILLS JOURNEY LAW, PARTICULARLY WITH RESPECT TO THE LAW OF GRAVITATION.
