TO TAKE ACCOUNT OF INTERNATIONAL TRENDS IT IS INTENDED, WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE WORK ON AUSTRIAN STANDARD B 3610 TO REPLACE EMPIRICAL DETERMINATIONS OF VISCOSITY, SUCH AS PENETRATION AND SOFTENING POINT, RING AND BALL, BY DETERMINATION OF ABSOLUTE VISCOSITY IN THE CAPILLARY VISCOSITY METER. FOR THIS IT IS NECESSARY TO ESTABLISH A CORRELATION BETWEEN THE LIMIT VALUES FOR PENETRATION AND SOFTENING POINT, AND CAPILLARY VISCOSITY. IT IS INTENDED TO SUBJECT ALL BITUMENS USED IN AUSTRIA TO A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF VISCOSITY. THIS SHOULD MEAN THAT LIMITS CAN BE WRITTEN INTO THE NEW VERSION OF B 3610 WHICH ENSURE THAT COMMERCIALLY PROVEN TYPES OF BITUMEN USED IN AUSTRIA WILL CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO BE USED IN THE FUTURE.
