HUMAN ERROR IN MOTORWAY DRIVING. A PILOT STUDY

FALSCHFAHRTEN AUF AUTOBAHNEN. EINE PILOTSTUDIE

THE FOLLOWING WORK IS TO BE UNDERTAKEN IN THE PILOT STUDY: (1) DEVELOPMENT OF A RESEARCH CONCEPT ON THE PROBLEM OF INTENTIONAL AND UNINTENTIONAL ERRONEOUS DRIVING. ON THE ONE HAND THE CONDITIONS OF THE ORIENTATION CONFLICT AND THE INTENSITY OF THE BARRIERS OVERCOME, AND ON THE OTHER HAND THE UNKNOWN CAUSES OF ERRONEOUS DRIVING, THE TIME OF PERCEPTION OF INCORRECT BEHAVIOUR AND THE SOLUTION OF THE PROBLEM OF ERRONEOUS DRIVING ARE BEING ANALYSED. A CLASSIFICATION OF INCORRECT DRIVING MANOEUVRES ACCORDING TO THE CRITERIA OF THEIR OCCURRENCE AND THE TYPE OF EXECUTION SHOULD PROVIDE SYSTEMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN VARIABLES OR GROUPS OF VARIABLES AND TYPES OF ERRONEOUS DRIVING. (2) DEVELOPMENT OF A METHODOLOGY AIMED AT PUTTING THE CONCEPTIONS INTO OPERATION; DETERMINATION OF ADEQUATE METHODS OF DATA COLLECTION; DETERMINATION OF SUITABLE CRITERIA FOR PICKING OUT DRIVERS MAKING MISTAKES. (3) INSTRUCTIONS FOR INTERDISCIPLINARY COOPERATION. THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE ANTICIPATED: (1) CARRYING OUT OF A GROUP DISCUSSION ON ERRONEOUS DRIVING; (2) WRITTEN QUESTIONS TO DRIVERS WHO MAKE ERRORS TO OBTAIN DATA ON A WIDER BASIS AND ESTABLISH THOSE DRIVERS WILLING TO ANSWER QUESTIONS; (3) INTENSIVE QUESTIONING OF DRIVERS, AND (4) INTENSIVE QUESTIONING OF THOSE DRIVERS WHO HAVE NOT MADE THESE ERRORS.
