THE BEHAVIOUR OF CHILD AND ADOLESCENT CYCLISTS - FINDING AN EMPIRICAL BASIS FOR TRAFFIC EDUCATION

DAS VERKEHRSVERHALTEN RADFAHRENDER KINDER UND JUGENDLICHER - UNTERSUCHUNGEN ZUR EMPIRISCHEN GRUNDLEGUNG DER VERKEHRSERZIEHUNG

THE FOLLOWING STUDIES WERE UNDERTAKEN: ANALYSIS OF TEACHING AND LEARNING AIDS FOR YOUNG CYCLISTS; ANALYSIS OF TEACHER EXPERIENCE IN CYCLIST TESTING; DETERMINATION OF EXPOSURE DATA FOR CHILD AND ADOLESCENT CYCLISTS IN URBAN AND RURAL AREAS; OBSERVATION AND ANALYSIS OF THE BEHAVIOUR OF YOUNG CYCLISTS AT 6 URBAN JUNCTIONS; ANALYSIS OF FACTORS IN ACCIDENTS INVOLVING YOUNG CYCLISTS. INTERVIEWS WITH TEACHERS ON THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH CYCLIST TESTING AT THE END OF THE 4TH YEAR AT SCHOOL, CENSUSES OF THE BEHAVIOUR OF CHILD AND ADOLESCENT CYCLISTS, OBSERVATION OF YOUNG CYCLISTS AT URBAN JUNCTIONS AND ANALYSIS OF ACCIDENTS INVOLVING YOUNG CYCLISTS PROVIDED EMPIRICAL DATA WHICH COULD BE USED FOR DEVELOPING TRAINING PROGRAMMES FOR CHILD CYCLISTS. THEY COULD ALSO BE USED TO INFLUENCE THE TRAFFIC WORLD OF YOUNG CYCLISTS AND INCREASE THEIR SAFETY.
