THE BEHAVIOUR OF FRESH CONCRETE - STUDIES ON SMALL-SCALE MODELS

COMPORTEMENT DU BETON FRAIS - ETUDES SUR MODELE REDUIT

THIS ARTICLE REPRODUCES A REPORT PRESENTED TO THE FRENCH RHEOLOGY GROUP, ON 9TH DECEMBER 1976. THE CONCRETING OF A DEEP FOUNDATION WITH SLURRY TRENCH WALLS WAS STUDIED ON A 1/6 WALL MODEL WITH A VIEW TO IMPROVING THE FLOW OF FRESH CONCRETE DURING LAYING, BY MODIFYING ITS GRADING COMPACTION. THE THEORETICAL STUDY OF THE LAW OF SIMILARITY LED TO THE FOLLOWING WAY OF CONDUCTING THE TESTS: IN THE SMALL-SCALE MODEL, REAL CONCRETE WAS REPLACED WITH MICRO-CONCRETE, THE AGGREGATES OF WHICH WERE OF REDUCED DIMENSIONS (1/6TH); THE PROPORTION OF WATER AND CEMENT WAS SUCH THAT, IN AN EXPERIMENT CARRIED OUT WITH MICRO-CONCRETE IN A 10 CM HIGH CONE GEOMETRICALLY SIMILAR TO ABRAMS CONE, THE RATIO BETWEEN THE SETTLEMENT OF THE SAMPLE AND ITS INITIAL HEIGHT WAS THE SAME AS FOR REAL CONCRETE SUBJECTED TO THE SAME TEST WITH A 60 CM HIGH CONE GEOMETRICALLY SIMILAR TO ABRAMS CONE. RESULTS OF VISCOMETER TESTS ON CEMENT GROUT USED IN REAL CONCRETE AND MICRO-CONCRETE ARE ALSO PRESENTED.
