HORIZONTALLY CURVED GIRDERS-STATE OF ART

THERE HAS BEEN A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF WORK DONE IN THE INVESTIGATION OF METHODS FOR ANALYZING CURVED BEAMS. CURVED GIRDER BRIDGES HAVE BEEN BUILT & ARE PROVEN TO BE AESTHETIC AND ECONOMICAL STRUCTURES. THE MAJOR ASPECTS OF THE BEHAVIOR OF THESE BRIDGES ARE FAIRLY WELL UNDERSTOOD AND ATTENTION IS TURNING TOWARD THE INVESTIGATION OF SECONDARY EFFECTS AND THE POSSIBLE ECONOMIC REFINEMENT IN COMPOSITE DESIGN. THE STATE-OF-THE-ART OF HORIZONTALLY CURVED GIRDERS IS REVIEWED IN THIS PAPER. AN EXTENSIVE BIBLIOGRAPHY AND SIGNIFICANT HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SUBJECT ARE PRESENTED. FABRICATION PROBLEMS, MATHEMATICAL METHODS OF ANALYSIS, DESIGN AIDS, AND CURRENT RESEARCH IN THIS AREA ARE DISCUSSED. /AUTHOR/
