LENGTH OF TIME THE DRIVING LICENCE HAS BEEN HELD AND THE INFLUENCE OF THIS TIME ON PERSONAL INJURY ACCIDENTS

ANTIGUEDAD EN LA POSESION DEL PERMISO DE LOS CONDUCTORES IMPLICADOS EN LOS ACCIDENTES CON VICTIMAS

TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE STUDY OF THE IMPORTANCE OF DRIVER EXPERIENCE, AN ANALYSIS IS CONDUCTED OF THE LENGTH OF TIME A DRIVING LICENCE HAS BEEN HELD BY DRIVERS HAVING CAUSED PERSONAL INJURY ACCIDENTS. MOST OF THE DATA COLLECTED APPLY TO THE PERIOD 1971-1975. THE DRIVERS INVOLVED IN THIS TYPE OF ACCIDENT ARE CLASSIFIED INTO 6 GROUPS COVERING DRIVERS WITH LESS THAN ONE YEAR EXPERIENCE UP TO DRIVERS HAVING HELD A DRIVING LICENCE MORE THAN 10 YEARS. YEARLY PERCENTAGES ARE ESTABLISHED FOR EACH GROUP. A DISTINCTION IS MADE BETWEEN ACCIDENTS IN RURAL AND URBAN AREAS. IT IS OBSERVED THAT IN URBAN AREAS THE PERCENTAGE OF DRIVERS WITH LESS THAN 2 YEARS DRIVING INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS IS MARKEDLY GREATER AND THAT THE DIFFERENCE DECREASES IN OPEN COUNTRY.
