RELATIONS BETWEEN STRESS CORROSION, FOLDING AND ALTERNATE TORSION

RELACIONES ENTRE CORROSION BAJO TENSION, DOBLADOS Y TORSIONES ALTERNAS

THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES FOLDING AND ALTERNATE TORSION TESTS ON WIRES FOR PRESTRESSING STRUCTURES. AN ATTEMPT IS MADE TO FIND THE POSSIBLE RELATION BETWEEN STRESS CORROSION AND THE NUMBER OF FOLDING OPERATIONS OR TORSION BY TRYING TO EXPLAIN THE MOST IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS WHEN RISKS OF CORROSION EXIST IN PRESTRESSED STRUCTURES. WIRE SAMPLES WERE OBTAINED, WHICH HAD A DIFFERENT BEHAVIOUR IN STRESS CORROSION BECAUSE THEY HAD BEEN SUBJECTED TO DIFFERENT THERMAL TREATMENTS, AND WERE SUBMITTED TO FOLDING, TORSION AND STRESS CORROSION TESTS. RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE NUMBER OF FOLDING OR TORSION OPERATIONS DOES NOT HAVE A SIMPLE RELATION WITH THE DURATION OF THE CORROSION TESTS ON WIRES WITHOUT ANY SURFACE DEFECTS.
