APPLICATION OF THE CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY ELASTOPLASTIC MODELS TO THE BEHAVIOUR OF A TRIAL EMBANKMENT ON SOFT SOIL

APPLICATION DES MODELES ELASTOPLASTIQUES DE L'UNIVERSITE DE CAMBRIDGE AU CALCUL DU COMPORTEMENT D'UN REMBLAI EXPERIMENTAL SUR SOLS MOUS

THE CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY MODEL OF THE BEHAVIOUR OF CLAYS IS KNOWN UNDER THE NAME "MODIFIED CAM CLAY MODEL", AND IS UTILISED FOR PREDICTING THE LONG TERM BEHAVIOUR OF ONE OF THE EMBANKMENTS ON SOFT GROUND AT THE EXPERIMENTAL SITE OF THE LABORATOIRES DES PONTS ET CHAUSSEES AT CUBZAC-LES-PONTS (GIRONDE). THE PROGRAM USES THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD (LCPC COMPUTER PROGRAM ROSALIE: SEE IRRD ABSTRACTS NOS 900002 AND 900003), PLASTICITY BEING TREATED BY THE INITIAL STRESS METHOD. THE PAPER SHOWS THE INTRODUCTION OF THE MODIFIED CAM CLAY MODEL INTO THE COMPUTER PROGRAM, THE DETERMINATION OF THE CALCULATION PARAMETERS, THE RESULTS AND THEIR COMPARISON WITH THE OBSERVED BEHAVIOUR OF THE EMBANKMENT 22 MONTHS AFTER CONSTRUCTION.
