L'EVOLUTION DE LA TECHNIQUE DES CHAUSSEES EN BETON

THE AUTHORS REVIEW INVESTIGATIONS ON THE CAUSES OF RIGID PAVEMENT DETERIORATION: INFLUENCE OF WATER AND DANGER CAUSED BY ITS CONTINUOUS PRESENCE, PARTICULARLY AT THE FOUNDATION/SLAB INTERFACE; EVOLUTION IN THE FOUNDATION AND IN THE MATERIALS USED IN THE STABILIZED SHOULDER; DANGER OF THE THICKNESS OF THE WATER FOR THE FOUNDATION. THE VARIOUS CHANGES IN RIGID PAVEMENT TECHNIQUES ARE DISCUSSED: MODIFICATIONS IN THE SLAB THICKNESS, DISTANCE BETWEEN THE EDGE OF THE SLAB AND THE DESIGN EDGE OF THE PAVEMENT, IMPORTANCE OF DRAINAGE, REPLACEMENT OF STABILIZED GRAVEL FOUNDATION WITH LEAN CONCRETE. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE DIFFERENT CONSTRUCTION STAGES OF RIGID PAVEMENTS: MATERIALS, CONCRETE MIX-DESIGN, LAYING, CONSTRUCTION OF THE SLAB AND FINISHING OPERATIONS, LATERAL DRAINAGE. PART OF THE ARTICLE DEALS WITH THE STRENGTHENING OF EXISTING PAVEMENTS WITH A CONCRETE SLAB, SURFACE CHARACTERISTIC OF RIGID PAVEMENTS AND THEIR MAINTENANCE. SECONDARY ROADS ARE ALSO DISCUSSED. FUTURE TRENDS ARE MENTIONED: NEW TYPES OF CONCRETE (FIBRE REINFORCED, PLASTICIZED, COMPACT CONCRETE) AND THE NEW THICK LIFT TECHNIQUE.
