METHOD OF QUANTIFYING THE DISCONTINUITIES OF A ROCK AND ROCK MASS TO DEFINE THEIR INFLUENCE ON THE PERFORMANCE OF A PICK DRILLING MACHINE

METHODE DE QUANTIFICATION DES DISCONTINUITES D'UNE ROCHE ET D'UN MASSIF ROCHEUX POUR PRECISER LEURS INFLUENCES SUR LES PERFORMANCES D'UNE MACHINE FOREUSE A PICS

TWO METHODS OF QUANTIFYING DISCONTINUITIES ARE PROPOSED. THESE METHODS AFFECT THE ROCK AT TWO LEVELS: THE FIRST AT THE LEVEL OF THE DRILLING DEVICE, E.G. AT ROCK SAMPLE LEVEL, IS BASED ON THE MEASUREMENT OF WAVE VELOCITY AND DETERMINATION OF THE QUALITY INDEX OF THE ROCK. THE SECOND, AT GALLERY LEVEL, E.G. AT THE LEVEL OF THE ROCK MASS, USES MATHEMATICAL MORPHOLOGY AND THE POSSIBILITIES OFFERED BY THE TEXTURE ANALYZER. THE RESULTS SHOW THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF LARGE-OPENING DISCONTINUITIES (EXCEEDING 5 CM) ON THE DRILLING PERFORMANCE OF A PICK DRILLING MACHINE. THE FAVOURABLE EFFECT OF FINE CRACKING (SMALL-OPENING DISCONTINUITIES) IS SHOWN BY THE VALUE OF THE PRODUCT OF THE QUALITY INDEX BY THE UNIAXIAL COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF THE ROCK.
