FOOTBRIDGES: TWO CASES IN GERMANY

PASSERELLES POUR PIETONS : DEUX REALISATIONS INTERESSANTES EN ALLEMAGNE

THE AUTHORS DESCRIBE (1) A FOOTBRIDGE AT BAD HARZBURG AND (2) A FOOTBRIDGE AT SIEGEN AND GIVES SOME CONSTRUCTIONAL DETAILS. THE FIRST IS MADE OUT OF THREE PARTS: TWO SUPPORTS WITH A SINGLE SHAFT, ON WHICH RESTS THE MAIN DECK. THE VERTICAL CROSS-SECTION IS SLIGHTLY CURVED. THE MAIN BEAM IS A WELDED STEEL BOX GIRDER, RIGID IN TORSION, WITH A TRAPEZOIDAL CROSS-SECTION. THE SHEET PILE OF THE DECK EXTENDS BEYOND EACH SIDE OF THE GIRDER (ORTHOTROPIC PLATE). THE SURFACING IS MADE OF PLASTIC MATERIAL (TIVOPLAN); IT IS ROUGH, JOINTLESS AND RESISTANT TO WATER, PETROL AND MINERAL OIL. IT CONSISTS OF NEOPRENE, FINE GRANITE AGGREGATES AND SPECIAL CEMENT MORTAR. THE SECOND FOOTBRIDGE HAS TWO SPANS, AND ITS MAIN SECTION IS A CLOSED BOX GIRDER WHICH SUPPORTS THE FLOOR. THE SURFACING IS MADE WITH ASPHALT TO WHICH CORINDON (ANTI-SKID MATERIAL) HAS BEEN ADDED. IT WAS PROTECTED AGAINST CORROSION BY MEANS OF HOT GALVANIZATION.
