DRAINAGE

DRAINAGE

THE OBJECT OF THE RESEARCH IS TO BE ABLE TO GIVE A BETTER DEFINITION OF: (1) SOIL CHARACTERISTICS IN TERMS OF: - THEIR (INTRINSIC) HYDRO-DYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS; - THEIR MECHANICAL BEHAVIOUR UNDER PAVEMENTS AS A FUNCTION OF WATER CONTENT; - INFORMATION ON THE SITE, AS A WHOLE, WHERE IT IS PROPOSED TO CONSTRUCT A ROAD. (2) STRUCTURES AND CONSTRUCTION ARRANGEMENTS TO THE EXTENT THAT THEY PREVENT THE UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS OF WATER: - THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE ARRANGEMENTS AND WAYS OF MEASURING SUCH EFFECTIVENESS; - CLASSIFICATION OF THE STRUCTURES AND CONSTRUCTION ARRANGEMENTS ACCORDING TO THEIR EFFECTIVENESS; - RESULTS OF STUDYING NEW ARRANGEMENTS. THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES ARE PLANNED FOR 1976: - CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT OF KNOWN TEST TECHNIQUES (IN PARTICULAR SUCTION TESTS); - CONTINUED STUDY OF THE LITERATURE; - PRELIMINARY EXPERIMENTS CONCERNING THE RELATION BETWEEN THE INTRINSIC SOIL CHARACTERISTICS AND THE PARAMETERS FOR THE SITE AS A WHOLE.
