STUDY OF CARRIAGEWAY MARKINGS

ETUDE DE LA SIGNALISATION HORIZONTALE

THIS WORK IS CONCERNED WITH IMPROVEMENTS TO CARRIAGEWAY MARKING AND IN PARTICULAR WITH THE VISIBILITY OF SURFACE MARKING AT NIGHT AND ON WET ROADS. IN 1978 A STUDY WAS CONDUCTED OF THE DAY AND NIGHT VISIBILITY OF MARKINGS IN DRY AND WET CONDITIONS TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE DRAINAGE PROPERTY OF THE PAVEMENT. THE ANALYSIS OF THE FACTORS GOVERNING THE ADHESION OF GLASS SHOT TO MARKING MATERIALS TO IMPROVE REFLECTION DURABILITY WILL BE CONTINUED. IN 1979 AS WELL AS VISIBILITY STUDIES ALREADY UNDERTAKEN, INVESTIGATIONS REQUESTED BY THE SERES WILL BE CONDUCTED ON: THE SKIDDING RESISTANCE OF PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS, CONTROL OF PROPORTIONING OF MATERIALS AT THE APPLICATION STAGE, BEHAVIOUR OF MARKING MATERIALS ON SURFACE DRESSINGS, EASE OF ERASING TEMPORARY MARKINGS. AN ATTEMPT WILL BE MADE TO ESTABLISH A CORRELATION BETWEEN THE PRESENT OFFICIAL APPROVAL PROCEDURE BASED ON ROAD TESTS AND ACCELERATED CIRCULAR TEST TRACKS.
