MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF NEW CONCRETE PAVEMENTS

THE OBJECT OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO PRODUCE EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL FOR USE IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF CONCRETE PAVEMENTS THAT WILL BE DURABLE AND THAT WILL REQUIRE MINIMUM MAINTENANCE. THE WORK WILL BE MAINLY CONCERNED WITH: - PAVEMENT SURFACE CHARACTERISTICS (ESSENTIALLY MOULDED SURFACES); - EFFECTS OF THE DIFFERENT CONSTITUENTS (WEARING QUALITIES, SKID RESISTANCE, BEHAVIOUR; - IMPERMEABILITY AND DRAINAGE; - BETTER LOAD TRANSFER AT THE JOINTS (DOWELS, HARDCORE KEYING, ELIMINATION OF JOINTS ETC.). THE FOLLOWING WORK IS PLANNED FOR 1976: - CONTINUED STUDY OF MOULDED LONGITUDINAL GROOVES, MOULDED JOINTS AND OTHER TYPES OF RELIEF; - CONTINUED ON-SITE INVESTIGATION CONCERNING THE EFFECTS OF USING MEDIUM AND LARGE SIZED AGGREGATE AND START OF STUDIES CONCERNING THE EFFECTS OF USING FINE AGGREGATES AND DIFFERENT CEMENTS; - START OF STUDIES CONCERNING IMPERMEABILITY AND POSSIBLE IMPROVEMENTS TO THE LOAD TRANSFER AT JOINTS. THIS RESEARCH PROJECT PARTIALLY SUPERSEDES IRRD RESEARCH PROJECT NO 500233.
