EFFECTS OF LOAD AND TEMPERATURE CHANGES AND OF RHEOLOGICAL DEFORMATION ON HORIZONTAL TENSION AND DEFLECTION OF SUSPENSION BRIDGES

GENERALIZED DEFLECTION THEORY OF SUSPENSION BRIDGES IS EXAMINED INCLUDING THE EFFECTS OF THE CHANGES OF LIVE LOADS TOGETHER WITH THE ELASTIC AND THERMAL DEFORMATIONS OF CABLES AND SUSPENSION RODS. FUTHER, THE EFFECTS OF THE RHEOLOGICAL LONG-TIME DEFORMATION OF CABLES ARE ANALYZED WHICH CAUSE THE DECREASE OF THE HORIZONTAL TENSION IN CABLES AND THE HORIZONTAL TENSION IN CABLES AND THE INCREASE OF DEFLECTION OF STIFFENING GIRDERS. IN THE PRESENT ANALYSIS ONLY THE RHEOLOGICAL DEFORMATION UNDER DEAD LOAD IS TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT. THE EFFECT OF LIVE LOADING ON RHEOLOGICAL DEFORMATION OF CABLES, WHICH IS RELATIVELY UNIMPORTANT BUT OF A VERY COMPLEX NATURE, IS NEGLECTED. /RRL/A/
