TRANSVERSE SHEAR IN A PRESTRESSED RAILWAY BRIDGE

IN ERFURT, IN THE AREA OF THE MAIN RAILWAY STATION, AN UNDERPASS UNDER 16 TRACKS WAS CONSTRUCTED WITH TWO SPANS EACH OF 16 M WIDTH AND 4.7 M CLEAR HEIGHT. THE MAIN INTEREST IN THIS LAY IN THE FACT THAT THE FOUNDATIONS WERE EXCAVATED BY TUNNELLING, WITHOUT INFLUENCING THE TRAIN TRAFFIC OR MARSHALLING OPERATIONS, AND THAT THE BRIDGE BEAMS, WITH ABUTMENTS, CENTRE PIERS, SUPERSTRUCTURE, WATERPROOFING COURSE, PROTECTIVE CONCRETE AND GRAVEL BED WERE ALL PREPARED NEXT TO THE RAILWAY. FOUR SYNCHRONISED HYDRAULIC PRESSES EACH OF 400 MP DRIVING FORCE WERE APPLIED TO A SLIDING RAIL USING POLYTETRAFLUORETHYLENE AS THE SLIDING MATERIAL TO JACK THE 14000 T STRUCTURE IN TWO TEST AND TWO MAIN MOVES OVER A TOTAL LENGTH OF 80 M FROM THE PREFABRICATION AREA TO THE POINT OF ERECTION. THE WEAR OF THE PTFE PLATES AMOUNTED TO 1.8 MM TOTAL. THE FRICTION COEFFICIENT DEVELOPED LAY BETWEEN 0.03 AND 0.11. THIS REPORT CONTAINS DETAILS REGARDING THE CONSTRUCTION, FOUNDATION CONDITIONS, THE JACKING EQUIPMENT AS WELL AS THE CONSTRUCTION PERIOD.
