A NEW ARTIFICIAL AGGREGATE FOR FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA

EIN NEUER KUENSTLICHER ZUSCHLAGSTOFF FUER BITUMINOESE FAHRBAHNBEFESTIGUNGEN IN DER TSCHECHOSLOWAKEI

THE AUTHOR REPORTS ON THE PRODUCTION AND FIRST EXPERIENCES WITH THE USE OF AGLOPORIT, AN ARTIFICIAL POROUS AGGREGATE WHICH WAS DEVELOPED FROM FLYASH BY PELLITISING AND SINTERING. THE MATERIAL CAN BE USED FOR HOT MIXED ASPHALT ROADBASES AND DISPLAYS AN EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH LEVEL OF THERMAL INSULATION, SO THAT THE TOTAL THICKNESS REQUIRED FOR FROST PROTECTION CAN BE REDUCED. WHEN IMPROVED "VITROCERAMIC AGLOPORIT" IS MIXED IN, IT IS SUITABLE FOR GRITTING MATERIAL OR SURFACE DRESSING CHIPPINGS.
