DACHSWALD-TUNNEL IN STUTTGART-VAIHINGEN

TO FACILITATE THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE B 14 WEST OF STUTTGART-VAIHINGEN IT WAS NECESSARY TO RE-ALIGN THE DACHSWALD WAY IN A 145 M-LONG TUNNEL. THIS TUNNEL WAS, AFTER TRAVERSING A SLOPE, CONSTRUCTED IN THE OPEN AND LATER COVERED BY FILLING IN A VALLEY WITH 850000 CUBIC METRES OF SOIL. THE TUNNEL IS EGG-SHAPED WITH 11 M CARRIAGEWAY WIDTH AND 10 M CLEARANCE AND THE FIRST STEP WAS TO CONCRETE BOTH SIDES OF THE UPWARDS INCLINED TUNNEL FLOOR. ABOVE THIS WERE ASSEMBLED THE 11 M LONG CONCRETE SECTIONS OF THE INTERNAL SHUTTERS ON A TROLLEY. THEY CONSISTED OF RE-USABLE NOE-SHUTTERING SYSTEM ELEMENTS, WHICH WERE SUPPORTED WITH TUBULAR STEEL SCAFFOLDING AND LOWERED BY USE OF 24 HYDRAULIC JACKS. THE LARGE AREA OUTER SHUTTER ELEMENTS (2.5 M X 6.25 M) WERE PLACED IN POSITION BY CRANE.
