THE PROJECT INCLUDES THE EXPANSION OF A STEEL ENGINEERING LABORATORY THROUGH THE ENLARGEMENT OF TESTING EQUIPMENT MAKING LOADS UP TO 3000 TONS IN THE HORIZONTAL DIRECTION POSSIBLE. THIS MEANS THAT PROBLEMS WHICH CANNOT BE SOLVED ANALYTICALLY CAN BE DEALT WITH EXPERIMENTALLY ON LARGE BRIDGE STRUCTURES. VARIOUS DESIGNS OF ORTHOTROPIC SLAB ARE BEING EXAMINED FOR STIFFNESS. THIS IS TO LEAD TO A DECK PANEL DESIGN WHICH IS ECONOMICAL AND MAKES POSSIBLE A PERMISSIBLE LOADING OF THE SURFACING.
