RHEOLOGICAL AND DYNAMIC BEHAVIOUR OF MORTAR IN BITUMINOUS STRUCTURES

AN EVALUATION IS TO BE MADE OF THE EFFECT OF THE VISCOSITY OF THE BITUMINOUS MORTAR ON ITS MECHANICAL PROPERTIES, INCLUDING THE MODULUS OF ELASTICITY OF A BITUMEN-BOUND LAYER, IN RELATION TO VOIDS CONTENT. THE EFFECT OF THE VISCOSITY OF THE MORTAR IS TO BE QUALIFIED AND QUANTIFIED BY VARYING THE PROPORTIONS OF FILLER AND SAND AND THE VISCOSITIES OF THE BITUMENS. MEASUREMENTS ARE TO BE MADE ON COMPACTED SAMPLES, DRILLED CORES, AND NON-DESTRUCTIVELY ON THE ROAD SURFACE USING A PUG-MILL METHOD DEVELOPED AT THE GEOTECHNICAL INSTITUTE. AN ATTEMPT IS TO BE MADE TO ESTABLISH A NUMBER OF INFLUENCING FACTORS FOR USE IN PREDICTING THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF EACH BITUMINOUS MIXTURE. IT IS INTENDED THAT THE RESULTS OF THE STUDY BE AVAILABLE IN EVERY TESTING LABORATORY.
