USE OF THE SHOCK FROST METHOD ON NON-COHESIVE SOILS WHICH ARE UNBROKEN

ANWENDUNG DER SCHOCKFROSTMETHODE AUF NICHT GEBROCHENE LOCKERGESTEINE

THE EXTENT TO WHICH INSUFFICIENT FROST RESISTANCE OF NON-COHESIVE SOILS IMPAIRS THE SAFETY OF ROADS BUILT WITH THEM IS TO BE EXAMINED. THE WATER-SATURATED MATERIAL IS PLACED IN PLASTIC SACKS AND IS BEING STRESSED BY SHOCK FROSTS. BEFORE AND AFTER THIS PROCESS THE PROPORTIONS SMALLER THAN 0.063 MM ARE BEING DETERMINED BY WET SIEVING. TO ASSESS DOUBTFUL CASES, THE PROPORTION SMALLER THAN 0.02 MM ACCORDING TO CASAGRANDE IS BEING DETERMINED, AND IF NECESSARY, THE WAIBEL CRITERION APPLIED (DETERMINATION OF THE PROPORTION OF MINERAL). 12 MATERIALS WHICH HAVE ALREADY SHOWN POOR RESULTS ARE TO BE COMPARED WITH 3 PERFECT MATERIALS.
