THE USE OF ANTI-LOCKING DEVICES ON ARTICULATED VEHICLES

THE REPORT DESCRIBES A THEORETICAL INVESTIGATION INTO THE EFFECTIVENESS UNDER EMERGENCY BRAKING CONDITIONS OF VARIOUS TYPES OF ANTI-LOCKING DEVICES FITTED TO ARTICULATED VEHICLES. THE COMPUTER MODEL IS DESCRIBED WITH THE HELP OF ILLUSTRATIONS. IT IS THE PURPOSE OF ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROLLERS TO ENSURE DRIVING STABILITY, STEERING CAPABILITY AND INTERMITTENT BRAKING IN CONTRAST TO LOCKING UNDER ALL POSSIBLE STOPPING SITUATIONS. THERE ARE ILLUSTRATIONS OF SINGLE WHEEL CONTROLLERS, UNCONTROLLED BRAKING SYSTEMS AND EIGHT ANTI-LOCKING DEVICES, WHICH ARE ALL DISTINGUISHED BY LESS EXPENSE WHEN COMPARED TO THE SINGLE-WHEEL CONTROLLER. THE RESULTS OF SIMULATION TRIALS OF EMERGENCY BRAKING WITH DIFFERENT LOCKING ARRANGEMENTS DURING STRAIGHT MOVEMENTS, CIRCULAR MOVEMENTS AND LANE CHANGING AND UNDER DIFFERENT LOADING CONDITIONS AND SKID RESISTANT SITUATIONS ARE GRAPHICALLY REPRESENTED AND COMPARATIVELY EVALUATED. IN CONCLUSION IT IS ESTABLISHED THAT IN THE MAJORITY OF THE SITUATIONS INVESTIGATED THE SUPERIORITY OF A VEHICLE WITH A FITTED ANTI-LOCKING DEVICE IS SHOWN SO CLEARLY THAT IN THE INTEREST OF GREATER DRIVING SAFETY THE APPARATUS SHOULD BE PUT INTO SERIES PRODUCTION.
