DETERMINATION OF MATERIAL PROPERTIES FROM DYNAMIC TESTS

DYNAMIC SOIL TESTS ARE TO BE CARRIED OUT WITH EXPERIMENTAL SOUNDING EQUIPMENT AND AMPLITUDE MEASURING TUBE. EVALUATION OF THE MEASURED CURVES (AMPLITUDE AND PHASE CURVES) WILL BE BY COMPUTER WHICH WILL GIVE CHARACTERISTIC VALUES OF THE SOIL IF A SPECIALLY DEVELOPED SOIL MODEL IS USED. AS THE DETERMINATION OF THESE CHARACTERISTIC SOIL VALUES IS RESTRICTED TO HARMONICALLY EXCITED SOILS, THE NON-LINEAR AND NON-ELASTIC SOIL PROPERTIES WILL BE DESCRIBED BY MEANS OF STATISTICAL AND DYNAMIC HYSTERESIS. SIMILAR VIBRATION MEASUREMENTS ARE ALSO TO BE MADE AT SIGNIFICANT POINTS OF ENGINEERING STRUCTURES. THE EVALUATION OF THE AMPLITUDE AND PHASE CURVES WILL INDICATE THE BEARING CAPACITY OF THE STRUCTURE AND ITS MATERIAL COEFFICIENTS. THIS METHOD CAN BE USED IN PRACTICE NOT ONLY FOR DETERMINING MATERIAL LAWS AND CHARACTERISTIC VALUES OF SOILS IN SITU, BUT ALSO FOR CHECKING EARTHWORKS AND TUNNEL STRUCTURES ON A PURELY QUALITATIVE BASIS, WHILE THE AMPLITUDE AND PHASE CURVES MEASURED AT VARIOUS DEPTHS ON THE STRUCTURE UNDER CONSIDERATION CAN BE COMPARED WITH AMPLITUDE AND PHASE CURVES MEASURED AT THE SAME DEPTHS ON PROVEN STRUCTURES.
