IN A FIRST STUDY OF THE POSSIBILITIES OF ACHIEVING AUTOMATIC VEHICLE DIFFERENTIATION, AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO ARRIVE AT A DEFINITION OF VEHICLE TYPES IN ACCORDANCE WITH VARIOUS CRITERIA, AND THIS LED TO THE DEMAND THAT A BOUNDARY BE SET BETWEEN REAL CARS AND ALL OTHER VEHICLE TYPES. RESEARCH IS TO BE CARRIED OUT AT A TEST MEASURING POINT INTO THE PRINCIPLES OF MEASUREMENT METHODOLOGY WITH REFERENCE TO VEHICLE TYPE DIFFERENTIATION. THE DEPENDENCE OF THE EFFECTIVE VEHICLE LENGTHS ON GEOMETRIC DESIGN AND THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE IS BEING EXAMINED.
