USE OF COMPUTERS IN BRIDGE DESIGN
AN OVERALL VIEW IS PRESENTED OF THE EXISTING AND POSSIBLE USES OF COMPUTERS WITH SPECIAL DIRECTION TOWARDS BRIDGE DESIGNERS. TOPICS BRIEFLY TOUCHED ARE COMPUTER HARDWARE DEVELOPMENTS, REQUIREMENTS FOR PROGRAMMING COMPUTERS, PAST, PRESENT AND PROPOSED APPLICATIONS IN BRIDGE DESIGN WITH SOME CRITICAL COMMENTS. A PROPOSAL FOR AN ADVANCED SYSTEMS APPROACH IS OUTLINED AND SOME SUGGESTIONS FOR MANAGERIAL SERVICES MENTIONED. MOST ENGINEERS SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED TO ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND MANAGEMENT SHOULD BECOME SUFFICIENTLY FAMILIAR WITH DATA PROCESSING METHODS TO BE ABLE TO EFFECTIVELY DIRECT DEVELOPMENTS. /AUTHOR/
