CORRECTIVE PROGRAMS FOR IMPROVING SKID RESISTANCE

THE MAJOR ELEMENTS OF A SUCCESSFUL CORRECTIVE PROGRAM FOR IMPROVING SKID RESISTANCE ARE (1) A RESPONSIBLE ATTITUDE TOWARD PROVIDING SKID-RESISTANT ROADS, (2) A KNOWLEDGE OF THE LEVEL OF FRICTION NEEDED, (3) A RELIABLE FRICTION-MEASURING METHOD, AND (4) TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE MATERIALS AND METHODS USED IN PROVIDING CORRECTIVE ACTION. FOR THIS LAST, CONSIDERATION IS GIVEN TO: SUPERELEVATION, SPECIAL SPOT IMPROVEMENT, RESURFACING, PAVEMENT GROOVING, ELIMINATION OF SHARP CURVES, ACID ETCHING, AND SYNTHETIC AGGREGATES.
