A CONTINUOUS SLIDING TEST IS TO BE CARRIED OUT ON AN ADDED GLIDE PATH OF ABOUT 20000 M, WITH CHANGING TEMPERATURES, ON BEARINGS MADE OF A COMBINATION OF PTFE WHITE AND AUSTENITIC STEEL. THE BEARINGS ARE TO BE LOADED WITH 45 N/SQ MM TO DETERMINE AT WHICH SLIDING PATH THE COEFFICIENT OF FRICTION ESTABLISHED AS A DESIGN PRINCIPLE IS EXCEEDED. THE RESULTS ARE TO BE COMPARED WITH EARLIER TESTS IN WHICH THE BEARINGS WERE LOADED WITH 30 N/SQ MM.
