PUNCHING OF AN ANISOTROPIC ELASTIC SOIL

POINCONNEMENT D'UN SOL ELASTIQUE ANISOTROPE

THE STRESS AND DISPLACEMENT DISTRIBUTION WITHIN A TRANSVERSELY ISOTROPIC HALF-SPACE SUBJECTED TO PUNCHING WAS DETERMINED. THE AUTHOR CONSIDERS FIRST THE CASE OF ANY AXISYMMETRICAL LOAD APPLIED TO THE SURFACE. PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION IS CALCULATED UNDER A RIGID TRUSS POST. THE FOLLOWING RESULT WAS OBTAINED: FOR A RIGID TRUSS POST, PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION AT THE SURFACE OF THE HALF-SPACE IS THE SAME AS IF THE MEDIUM WAS ISOTROPIC, THUS JUSTIFYING THE USE OF AN EXPERIMENTAL COEFFICIENT, OF THE SUBGRADE-REACTION COEFFICIENT TYPE, IN SOIL MECHANICS.
