THIS REPORT IS THE FINAL REPORT OF STUDY NUMBER 1 3N 050. THE GLUEING OF METALS REQUIRES ASSEMBLING SURFACES SUFFICIENTLY LARGE TO TRANSFER FORCES. SIMPLE OVERLAPPING GLUEING USES THESE SURFACES AND ENSURES CONTINUITY IN THE STRUCTURE. WHEN TWO RECTANGULAR PLATES, JOINED BY SIMPLE OVERLAPPING GLUEING, ARE SUBJECTED TO A TENSILE FORCE APPLIED TO THE EXTREMITIES OF THE PLATES, SHEAR AND TENSILE STRESSES OCCUR AT THE GLUED JOINT. THE AUTHORS PRESENT A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE THEORIES ON STRESS DISTRIBUTION IN JOINTS ASSEMBLED BY SIMPLE OVERLAPPING GLUEING AND OF THE VALUES OF THE ULTIMATE FORCES IN THESE JOINTS, OBTAINED EXPERIMENTALLY. THIS COMPARISON FACILITATED THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A DESIGN METHOD, USING SIMPLE RELATIONS, FOR THE CALCULATION OF SYMMETRICAL, SIMPLE-OVERLAPPING GLUED JOINTS.
