RURAL TRACKS AND ROADS IN FRENCH SPEAKING AFRICA

LES PISTES ET ROUTES RURALES EN AFRIQUE FRANCOPHONE

IN ORDER TO FULFIL THE INCREASING DEMAND FOR TRANSPORT IN RURAL AREAS WHILE KEEPING WITHIN FINANCIAL CONSTRAINTS, IT IS NECESSARY TO DESIGN A SIMPLE ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE CAPABLE OF EVOLVING ACCORDING TO THE AVAILABILITY OF FINANCIAL RESOURCES. THIS REPORT IS IN TWO PARTS: (1) GENERAL STUDY OF TRACKS AND EARTH ROADS; (2) CRITICAL STUDY OF THE PLANNING OF A ROAD BUILT IN THE TOGO. THE SOLUTIONS DESCRIBED REFLECT THE PRESENT TENDENCY IN FRENCH-SPEAKING AFRICA, WHICH SHOWS THE NEED FOR THE STANDARDIZATION OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF SUCH SYSTEMS.
