A STUDY WAS MADE OF THE EFFECT OF VARYING THE SPACING OF DOWELS ON THE STRUCTURAL EFFICIENCY OF DOWELED JOINTS IN CONCRETE PAVEMENTS. BY MEANS OF THE WESTERGAARD ANALYSES, GRAPHS ARE DEVELOPED WHICH SHOW THAT IF SLAB EDGES ARE TO BE ADEQUATELY PROTECTED THROUGH STRESS CONTROL THE INDIVIDUAL DOWELS MUST BE CLOSELY SPACED. /AUTHOR/
