PUMPING OF RIGID PAVEMENTS IN INDIANA

PUMPING IS PREVALENT DURING PERIODS OF HEAVY RAINFALL ON ROAD WHICH CARRY A HIGH VOLUME OF HEAVY TRUCK TRAFFIC. HOWEVER, ONLY THOSE PORTIONS OF THE ROADS WHER PLASTIC CLAY-LIKE SOILS PREDOMINATE WERE PUMPING. ON NEW CONSTRUCTION PUMPING CAN BE MINIMIZED OR ELIMINATED BY USING DRAINED INSULATION COURSES, EXPANSION JOINTS, AND LOAD TRANSFER DEVICES. /AUTHOR/
