INVESTIGATIONAL CONCRETE PAVEMENT IN MINNESOTA

LAYOUT OF THE MINNESOTA PROJECT TO STUDY THE EFFECTS OF JOINT SPACING IN CONCRETE PAVEMENTS IS DESCRIBED. ANCILLARY STUDIES EMBRACE THE WATER TIGHTNESS OF TRANSVERSE JOINTS, EFFECTIVENESS OF SUBGRADE PAPER, JOINT CONSTRUCTION PRACTICES, AND REINFORCEMENT PROBLEMS. THE MAJOR TOPICS DISCUSSED ARE THE EFFECTS OF TEMPERATURE, MOISTURE, AND INITIAL SHRINKAGE ON THE MOVEMENT OF CONCRETE SLABS OF DIFFERENT LENGTHS AND DESIGN. DETAILS OF CONSTRUCTION AND MEASUREMENT ARE DISCUSSED.
