INFLUENCE OF THE GRADING OF CEMENT ON ITS HYDRATION KINETICS

INFLUENCE DE LA GRANULARITE DES CIMENTS SUR LEUR CINETIQUE D'HYDRATATION

THIS REPORT WAS PRESENTED AT THE CERILH ONE-DAY CONFERENCE IN 1977. APPENDED ARE TWO DISCUSSIONS ON: (1) RESISTANCE OF CONCRETE TO CHEMICAL AGGRESSION, AND (2) CARBONATION OF CONCRETE. X-RAY DIFFRACTION WAS USED TO STUDY THE HYDRATION OF 3 TYPES OF INDUSTRIAL CEMENT AND 3 GYPSUM CLINKERS. MICROSAMPLES OF PURE PASTE WERE EXAMINED AT 6, 16, 24, 48 HOURS, 7 AND 28 DAYS. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE TO USE THE HYDRAULIC POTENTIAL OF CLINKER MINERALS MORE EFFICIENTLY AND TO INCREASE THE RATE OF HYDRATION OF THE DIFFERENT MINERALS IN PORTLAND CEMENT BY SUITABLE CRUSHING.
