STUDY OF FUNDAMENTAL DIAGRAM. RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN FLOW, SPEED AND CONCENTRATION (INTERIM REPORT PLUS COMMENTARIES AND ADDENDA)

ETUDE DU DIAGRAMME FONDAMENTAL. RELATIONS DEBIT VITESSE CONCENTRATION (RAPPORT DE STAGE + COMMENTAIRES ET COMPLEMENTS)

IN TRAFFIC THEORY THE USUAL APPROACH IS TO CONSIDER AND DETERMINE EXACTLY FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE FUNDAMENTAL TRAFFIC PARAMETERS, TRAFFIC FLOW, TRAFFIC CONGESTION AND SPEED. THE AUTHORS ARE PARTICULARLY CONCERNED WITH EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES AIMED AT OBTAINING RESULTS WHICH APPROACH REALITY AS CLOSELY AS POSSIBLE. REFERENCE IS MADE TO METHODS OF DATA COLLECTION AND CERTAIN MODELS FOR TRAFFIC FLOW ARE EXAMINED AND A MODEL APPLICABLE TO CONTINUOUS MEASUREMENTS DESCRIBED IN CHAPTER 7 OF THE REPORT IS ESTABLISHED. AN ANNEX CONTAINS DETAILS OF WORK CARRIED OUT ON DIAGRAMS OF CURVES CONSTRUCTED IN FRANCE AND ELSEWHERE. THE COMMENTARY AND ADDENDA PRESENTED ARE INTENDED TO DIRECT THE WORK CARRIED OUT IN THE COURSE OF THIS RESEARCH TOWARDS A BETTER KNOWLEDGE OF TRAFFIC FLOW.
