INJURY SEVERITY SCORE (ISS) AND COLLISION SPEED AS PARAMETERS FOR ACCIDENT SEVERITY

INJURY SEVERITY SCORCE (ISS) UND KOLLISIONSGESCHWINDIGKEIT ALS PARAMETER FUER DIE UNFALLSCHWERE

AS PART OF A SERIES OF STUDIES ON FATALLY INJURED VEHICLE OCCUPANTS, THE CORRELATION BETWEEN COLLISION SPEED (DELTA) AND INJURY SEVERITY WAS CHECKED. INJURY CLASSIFICATION ACCORDING TO THE ABBREVIATED INJURY SCALE (AIS) AND THE INJURY SEVERITY SCORE (ISS) WAS APPLIED ALTERNATELY. IT WAS SHOWN THAT THE RELATION BETWEEN THE INJURY SEVERITY CLASSIFIED ACCORDING TO THE ISS AND COLLISION SPEED IS MORE SIGNIFICANT THAN WHEN THE AIS CLASSIFICATION IS USED. CURRENTLY THEREFORE THE ISS SHOULD BE PREFERRED FOR GRADING DEGREES OF INJURY WHEN ACCIDENT SEVERITY IS CLASSIFIED.
