CONTRIBUTION TO THE STUDY OF THE RHEOLOGICAL BEHAVIOUR OF FRESH LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE

CONTRIBUTION A L'ETUDE DU COMPORTEMENT RHEOLOGIQUE DES BETONS LEGERS FRAIS

THE INFLUENCE OF THE WATER RETAINED BY THE AGGREGATES ON THE FLOW AND LAYING OF CONCRETE IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT WHEN POROUS AGGREGATES SUCH AS LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATES ARE USED. IT IS FROM THIS ANGLE THAT THE AUTHORS STUDY THE RHEOLOGICAL BEHAVIOUR OF FRESH LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE. THE QUANTITIES OF WATER RETAINED BY THE AGGREGATES ARE MEASURED EXPERIMENTALLY WITH A SIMPLE METHOD ALREADY USED FOR HEAVY AGGREGATES OF LOW POROSITY. A CORRELATION IS ESTABLISHED BETWEEN THESE VALUES AND THE QUANTITIES OF WATER REALLY INVOLVED IN CONCRETE FLOW PHENOMENA BY MEANS OF THE LCL WORKABILITY METER. THE VALIDITY LIMITS OF THIS CORRELATION ARE GIVEN AS A FUNCTION OF THE NATURE OF THE LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATES UTILIZED.
