TRACKING, COMPARATIVE STUDY OF DIFFERENT TEST DEVICES FOR BITUMINOUS MIXTURES

THE MAIN AIM OF THE RESEARCH IS TO INVESTIGATE THE EXISTENCE OF A RELATION BETWEEN THE RESULTS OF DIFFERENT TESTS FOR CHARACTERIZING THE TRACKING BEHAVIOUR OF BITUMINOUS MIXTURES. SIMULTANEOUSLY, THE INFLUENCE OF THE COMPACTION METHOD FOR SAMPLES WILL BE STUDIED. IN THE LONGER TERM, THE OBJECTIVE IS TO DEFINE A SIMPLE AND RAPID TEST FOR MIX-DESIGN STUDIES AND IN-SITU CONTROLS. THE STUDY WILL BE CONDUCTED ON A BITUMINOUS MIXTURE OF TYPE AB 16 OF 12 DIFFERENT MIX-DESIGNS (VARIATION IN GRADING, FILLER CONTENT AND BINDER CONTENT). THE SAMPLES WILL BE PREPARED AS FOLLOWS: MARSHALL COMPACTION, MANUFACTURE OF COMPACTED PLATES WITH A CONSTRUCTION SITE COMPACTOR, LPC COMPACTION TABLE AND CORE DRILLING OF SAMPLES, SHEAR GIRATORY PRESS. THE SAMPLES WILL BE SUBJECTED TO THE FOLLOWING TESTS: MARSHALL TEST, ISETH STATIC CREEP TEST, EMPA DYNAMIC TRIAXIAL TEST, SHEAR GIRATORY PRESS TEST, BEHAVIOUR WITH THE LPC TRAFFIC SIMULATOR.
