IMPACT ON TRAFFIC OF THE INTRODUCTION OF A DEMAND-BUS SYSTEM (DIAL A RIDE SYSTEM)

VERKEHRLICHE AUSWIRKUNGEN DER EINFUEHRUNG EINES BEDARFSGESTEUERTEN BUSSYSTEMS

THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE INTRODUCTION OF A BUS SYSTEM, OPERATED BY DEMAND, ON THE CHOICE OF VEHICLE IN A COUNTRY DISTRICT OF THE BODENSEE AREA WERE INVESTIGATED WITH THE AID OF A MODEL. EMPIRICAL VALUES WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLE OF THE MODEL INVOLVED THE INTRODUCTION OF GROUPS WITH HOMOGENEOUS BEHAVIOUR AND THE CHANGES IN LOCALITY AFFECTED BY THEM. THE GROUPS WERE DEFINED AS GAINFULLY EMPLOYED WITH A PRIVATE CAR, GAINFULLY EMPLOYED WITHOUT A PRIVATE CAR, NOT EMPLOYED WITH A PRIVATE CAR, NOT EMPLOYED WITHOUT A PRIVATE CAR AND PUPILS UNDER THE AGE OF 18. THE SIMULATION CALCULATIONS WERE BASED ON A COUNTRY DISTRICT WITH 100000 INHABITANTS. DUE TO THE INTRODUCTION OF THE DIAL-A-BUS SYSTEM THE TRAFFIC PICTURE HAS CHANGED AS FOLLOWS: THE NUMBER OF JOURNEYS INCREASED FROM 256000 PER DAY TO 289000 PER DAY, THE JOURNEYS IN THE PUBLIC TRANSPORT (INCL DB) INCREASED FROM 24570 TO 55770. A CONSIDERABLE CHANGE RESULTED IN THE PROPORTION OF VARIOUS TRAFFIC MODES. THE TOTAL TRAFFIC INCREASED, ONLY JOURNEYS BY BICYCLE SHOWED A DECREASE. THE DIAL A BUS SYSTEM IMPROVED THE MOBILITY OF THE UNDERPRIVILEGED POPULATION GROUPS.
