THE STRUCTURE AND EFFECT OF INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY-DEMAND FACTORS AS DETERMINANTS IN PRIVATE TRANSPORT

STRUKTUR UND EFFEKTE VON FAKTOREN DER INDIVIDUELLEN AKTIVITAETENNACHFRAGE ALS DETERMINANTEN DES PERSONENVERKEHRS

WITH THE HELP OF TRIP DATA FROM HOUSEHOLD QUESTIONNAIRES COLLECTED DURING THE PAST SIX YEARS FROM ABOUT 44000 AND 404000 PERSONS RESPECTIVELY OUT OF TWO DIFFERENTLY STRUCTURED INVESTIGATION AREAS, THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT FACTOR CATEGORIES HAS BEEN ANALYSED. THIS HAS ENABLED EMPIRICAL PROOF OF THE HYPOTHESIS THAT INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY-DEMAND IS THE PREDOMINANT INVARIABLE VIS-A-VIS FAVOURABLE CHANGES IN THE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM AND IT IS ONLY DETERMINED BY PERSON-SPECIFIC, AND IN PRIVATE ACTIVITY CATEGORIES ADDITIONALLY BY HOUSEHOLD-SPECIFIC, FACTORS. THE EFFECT OF THE INDIVIDUALLY AVAILABLE PERSON-SPECIFIC FACTORS AND THEIR INTERACTION IS SHOWN TO CONFORM TO THE ESTABLISHED POSITION. FROM THIS IT IS SHOWN THAT WHEN CONSIDERING ALL ACTIVITIES, RECIPROCAL ACTION BETWEEN THE FACTORS HAD NO SIGNIFICANT PLACE, NEVERTHELESS THEY PARTLY APPEAR, IF ONLY THE "VEHICLE-RELATED" ACTIVITIES (THE ACTIVITIES LINKED WITH A MOTORISED TRANSPORT MODE) ARE CONSIDERED. THE CONSEQUENCE OF THE SIGNIFICANT FACTORS, IN PARTICULAR OF PROFESSION AND CAR-AVAILABILITY, CAN BE MENTIONED AS HAVING THE GREATEST EFFECT QUANTITATIVELY, UPON THE INDIVIDUALLY DEFINED FEATURES OF EACH ACTIVITY CATEGORY. ON THE BASIS OF THE EMPIRICAL RESULTS A MODEL HAS BEEN FORMULATED OF THE LINEAR EFFECT OF INDIVIDUAL FACTORS (IN SHORT: THE EFFECTS MODEL) TO ESTIMATE THE EXPECTED VALUE AND THE CONFIDENCE INTERVAL OF INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY DEMAND ACCORDING TO SIX ACTIVITY CATEGORIES, WHICH IN CONTRAST TO THE KNOWN CONSIDERATION OF PERSON-GROUPS, TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE DIRECT EFFECT OF THE FACTORS. IN AN EXTENSIVE MATHEMATICAL APPENDIX THE VARIANCE-ANALYTICAL PROCESSES ARE DESCRIBED.
